There have been a lot of postings asking for a viewer for videos
of different games (Phantasmagoria, Gabriel Knight, ...). I did
not get an answer yet to obtain it, but an old post on PHANT.
gave me a solution. 
 
There are two kind of videos:
- The *.VMD files. They are true video of an event.
- The *.RBT files. They are video, but they show over a fixed slide
(For example 1000.RBT shows just Adrienne looking up, without any
furniture or wall). They are blue screen scenes.
 
For the video VMD, it is very simple :
 
Let's say that PHANTASMAGORIA is on CD G:, and that the hard
drive is C:. You have either C:\SIERRA\SCARYDOS, or C:\SIERRA\SCARY
for WINDOWS (It is easier on windows to change the movies)
 
1) Create a directory C:\VMD
 
2) Edit either RESOURCE.CFG (DOS) or RESOURCE.WIN (WIN)
on the line MovieDir, add :
 
MovieDir=C:\VMD;G:\VMD
 
(You can also add the line Brightness=20 to lighten the videos)
 
3) Copy all the movies you want to see in C:\VMD. They are all
on the CD in the same Directory and extension VMD. Beware that 
they are quite large (Several over 30 Mb !). If you use file
manager, you'll have to remove the property Readonly.
 
4) Rename 10.VMD by any name, or delete it, and rename one of the 
others 10.VMD (This is the name of the INTRO file). For example,
20.VMD is the name of Intro to Chapter 1. Rename it 10.VMD.
 
5) Start PHANTASMAGORIA by typing SIERRA. Put the CD # 1 in
the drive !
 
6) Click on WATCH INTRO ... Here it is... Now it's Chapter 1
video.
 
It is easier when in WINDOWS, because you can switch between
the game and the FILE MANAGER, so you can watch a video, and then
rename a new file 10.VMD, and watch it again. You will see that 
there are a lot of variations.
 
Note that there is no VMD video for Chapter 6 intro. It is played
using 5390.RBT to 5407.RBT. Also chapter 7 intro is 5855.VMD, on
CD # 6. Several videos are present on several CD (Like the hands
on the bed, 745.VMD).
 
For the *.RBT videos, it is a bit more difficult. Video 91.RBT is the
opening Sierra logo. Video 90.RBT is the PHANTASMAGORIA banner title.
 
They are played in the order 91, 90 at the beginning of the game, on
any CD. To see any of the other, you just have to move them in
the SCARY or SCARYDOS directory, rename them 91 and 90, and then
start normally the game.
 
I still think that another solution would be to modifiy the
save file CHASEDUN.1 (or 0, or 2) to see various ending to the
Chapter 7. I did not succeed that way. However, If someone could
send me the file corresponding to the long chase (The one 
given on March 24 by Black Wolf),I would like to see it. It is
very difficult to change the ending.
 
Can someone please send me that file ??? (Typed would be OK,
it is short ASCII data).
 
Better, if someone knew how it is coded ?

I don't know if this could apply to GK2 or other sierra games.
I would like to know too ! RBT Files exists for GK2 too.
 
By the way, I like Phanta a lot, but for the story, not the 
game. It is too easy in the 6 first chapters, and not playable in
the Chase. But it makes a good horror movie !

For GK2, simple rename it "20", and run the opening movie.
