THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are a few things you should know while playing kings quest 1. It is an old game, a very old
game and that means that the speed and sprites aren't as high tech to today standards, but that
gives no reason to hate a classic. Much like my other faqs I take you through this in story form
and since this is such an old game, i will tell you how to solve it, for those of you who want to
beat it than and there. I apologize if anything is misplaced or mispelled. As always i have a box
of thank you's to everyone that has helped this faq prosper. oh and one more thing. This faq is
protected under copy right law 1998, Joey Rowland (you get what im saying)

ON WITH THE FAQ

1. A VISIT TO THE CASTLE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you stand in front of the grandest castles in the land, you begin to think of your calling to
this place. Hmmm you think as you hold your chin in deep concentration. What could the king of
this fine land possibly want with me? You shake all guesses out of your head as you will only get
yourself confused, instead you cross the bridge to make your way over to the castle door. You
look down into the moat as you see many hungry alligators eye you in hopes that you will fall,
and become lunch. Not today you say aloud as you cross the bride, they swim away. You contine to
scale the castle until finally you find the big door. Here it is you say aloud as you wipe the
sweat from your forehead. You open the humoungus doors and step in. Inside you see grand trophies
and even grander wall plaques. You cant beleive it you think as you follow the red carpet to
where the king sits. You tend to lose your train of thought as you reach the king. Uhh you say
aloud as you stand in front of the king, not knowing what to say. (o.k. This is what you do, when
you start, walk left over the bridge, be carful not to fall in the water, then keep heading left
until you are in front of a big door. In front of that door type "OPEN DOOR" and the door should
open. keep following the red carpet until you are in front of the king.)

2. WHAT DID YOU CALL ME HERE FOR GREAT KING

As you stand in front of the king speechless, all you can do is walk a couple of feet in front of
him and bow. You drop your hat and in attempt to pick it up the king begins to lauph. You put
your hat back uptop your head and begin to smile also. You clear your throat, and begin to speak
with more confidence. Yes your highness, you wanted to speak with me? (o.k. stand in front of the
king and type "BOW" you should bow, you have to be in a perfect spot for this to happen, then
type "TALK TO KING", you should find out your mission. thats it leave.)

3. YOU CANT WAGE WAR ON AN EMPTY STOMACH
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you leave the castle, you look up into the sky. ahhh you say as you take in the nice fresh air
what a pleasant day this is. You cross the bridge closest to you and head north. you stop to take
a look around, and to think. so this is what the king wanted, for me to be heir to the throne.
This is too good to be true. Your stomach begins to growel as you look ahead of you and see a
dirt farm of freshly grown carrots. your mouth begins to water as you pick one. You put it into
your pouch knowing that you will be even more hungry later, and you better save it. Now you say
as a smile crosses your face, time to become king. (o.k. when you leave the castle cross the
bridge closest to you and walk up, then walk on the dirt and type "TAKE CARROT", you should get
a carrot.)

4. THAT WOULD MAKE ONE HUGE AMLET

You begin to head west looking for the three treasures the king ordered you to get. you stop as
you notice something shining in a tree right above you. You try to get a better look from where
your standing but alas you cannot. There is only one way to solve this you think to yourself as
you hug the tree and begin climbing it. After a couple of seconds of climbing the giant tree you
see lying smugly in a nest a gigantic golden egg. You eyes begin to get wider as you walk over
to it. This is what i need you yell out as you take it and put it into your pouch. you make your
way back down to the ground, you sit down and admire your golden egg for a second. (o.k. keep
walking left after you get the carrot and there should be a giant tree. stand in front of it and
type "CLIMB TREE" when your up in the tree walk over to the golden egg and type "TAKE EGG" after
you have it make your way back to the ground.)

5. SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FREIND

You stand up as you begin to wander, hmmm you think to yourself, what would being a king be like,
would it be grand? would it be hard? would you get respect or hate. You walk over to the biggest
rock you see to have a seat and to clear your head for a long journey. you sit on the rock and
instantly fall as the rock rolls. Hey you yell out as you stumble to your feet. You look at the
rock and begin to walk forward only to fall face first into the ground. What in the great name
of our land you yell out as you get back on your feet. You look to see what triped you, and to
your suprize you triped into a hole. I wonder whats inside this you say as you put your hand in.
you take out a dagger. Hey you say out loud, what luck i will need this. You look at it for a
second and connect it to your belt. You sit down by the hole in hopes to clear your mind. (o.k.
head straight down from the tree you climed and you should see a rock. stand in front of it and
type "MOVE ROCK" then stand in front of the hole the rock reveals and type "LOOK INSIDE HOLE" it
should say you see a dagger than type "TAKE DAGGER")

6. HELLO IM YOUR FAIRY GODMOTHER

You stand up after you clear your head, its going to be hard to concentrate on this quest if i
keep thinking about this you think to yourself, you continue traveling until you see something.
You blink a few times to double check that this isn't an illusion. you see a woman, a woman with
a wand and she spoke to you. Uh good day m'lady who are you? The woman smiles as she gives you a
spell. My child do not be a fool, i am your fairy godmother. Then as quick as this meeting took
place it was over. Strange you say to yourself as you continue on your journey taking the spell
only as a peace offering. but what could be so dangerous I need my fairy godmothers help you
think to yourself. (when you get the dagger head up to the big tree you climbed, now keep heading
right about two times she should be there, if not leave and comeback. she should give you a spell
and then leave. and then you should leave as well.)

7. IM RICH!!!

As you continue on your journey you walk by a tree that has been knocked down, it looked to be
down a long time. Your curiosity can't help but notice the open hole that the knocked down tree
left. You peer in and see a worn pouch. alright you say aloud as you take the pouch and open it.
you see many many diamonds. you almost drop the bag in excitment as you yell out in joy. you tie
the pouch to your belt next to your dagger as not to lose any diamonds. Ill celbrate later when
I am king you say to yourself...when I am king....(o.k. when you get your spell go left and left
again, then go down. you should see a tree stump, stand in front of it and type "LOOK IN STUMP"
it should say you find a worn pouch, then type "TAKE POUCH", you are done with that.)

8. FILL

As you continue on your journey in search for the three items, you have sit to catch your breath.
but in the corner of your eye you notice a bowl. You stand up even though your fatiqued and pick
up the bowl. you examine it for a minute and discover a word located on the bowel that say fill.
you say fill out loud and the bowl fills up with stew. impressive you think to yourself as you
gently and carfully put the hot stew in your pouch. I better not waste time you think to yourself
as there will be plenty of time to rest later. (o.k. now from where you get the pouch go down 3
times and go right 4 times. then walk in front of the bowl and type "TAKE BOWL" then type "LOOK
AT BOWL" you should notice the word fill. then type "FILL", and you should have your stew now go
up once.)

9. NO DAY AT THE BEACH

as you kneel before the clashing waves you grab a handful of pebbles and start skipping them in
the water. Ahh this is relaxing you think as you were more tired than you made out. You stand up
after resting a few minutes and put the rest of the pebbles in your pouch. you never know when a
good rock may come in handy you say to yourself as you continue walking. (when you go up there
should be a beach by a river, be carful not to fall in the river, when your on the beach type
"GET PEBBLES" then go left and down.)

10. OH YOUR SUCH A NUT

as you stand under the great walnut tree something tells you to pick one, so you reach your hand
up there and grab a nice fresh walnut. Your feeling a little hungry so you break it open, only to
discover a golden nut inside. you drop the walnut shell and put the golden nut in your bag with
the jewels, you take a deep breath and then release it slowly. ahhh you say aloud, what is that
sweet smell? knowing that it is not the carrot or the stew you walk to where the sweet smell is
coming from. (o.k. you should be in front of a walnut tree after heading left and down. stand in
front of the tree and type "TAKE WALNUT" then when you have it type "OPEN WALNUT" you should get
a golden nugget.)

11. I WANT CANDY

You stand in front of the beautifal and sweet smelling house your nose ordered you to go to. Hmmm
you say out loud as you leave manners behind you and take a bite out of the house. you chew for
a few seconds when you decide someone might be living here. You open the door to step in to
apologize for making a pig of yourself. you enter the house. Hello you say as to see if any ones
home. You look around. hmmm all you see is a note on the table, you take the note and read it.
hmmm thats strange you say. you hear someone coming so you decide to see who it is. A witch you
think to yourself as you see her getting her stove ready. You sneak up behind her, someone has
to stop her you think, so you push her in. ahhhhhhhh she screams as she burns and melts into a
blob of hot ash. There you say as you wipe your hands on your pants, no witch no problem. You
walk over to the witchs cupboard and take the cheese that is inside it, hey shes not going to be
needing it where shes going. and so you leave her house. (o.k. when you enter the house go in
front of the stove and type "OPEN STOVE" then go over to the cupboard and type "OPEN CUPBOARD"
then type "TAKE CHEESE" then walk over to the note and type "TAKE NOTE" then type "READ NOTE",
wait a little bit in the bedroom and a witch should come in and get her stove ready, while her
back is turned go up behind her and type "PUSH WITCH" there you should be done leave the house
and go up 4 times and left once.)

12. POOR LITTLE THING

poor little thing you think to yourself as you open the gate. you must be hungry. you take out
the carrot from your pouch and hold it in front of the goat. the goat runs up to you and eats it
all up. You pet the goat and continue on your way only to discover the goat is following you. hmm
you say as you let the goat follow you. You may be a worthy freind. (o.k. when you are standing
in front of the gate of the goats pen type "OPEN GATE" than stand in front of the goat and type
"SHOW CARROT" then the goat should follow you, now you have to go down twice, then left and cross
the bridge. then go left again and cross over that bridge.)

13. STEP ASIDE TROLL

As you stand there a troll blocks your way. You step aside as the goat runs ahead of you. wow you
think to yourself as you see the goat ram into the troll and knock him into the water. The goat
then walks off knowing that it has paid its debt. Thank you freind you say to yourself as you
wave to the goat. (o.k. just let the computer handle this just cross the bridge. then when your
done cross the bridge and head down.)

14. WHATS MY NAME (NO NOT DMX)

As you continue on your journey you see an old nome. You wave at the nome and ask him what is he
doing here. All he does is smile and offers you a gift if you can guess his name. O.K. you say
as you begin guessing. Nope the man says wrong, he drops his key and than leaves. better luck
next time he yells as he dissapears from sight. You bend over and pick up the heavy key. ughhhh
you say as you put it in your pouch, this thing is heavy. (o.k. when you see the man stand in
front of him and type "TALK TO MAN" than he will give you three gusses just type "ASDF" or some
other bullcrap. than when he says your wrong he'll leave but he drops the key and wishes you
better luck next time. just stand in front of the key and type "TAKE KEY" than when your done
head down twice.)

15. DOES THIS MEAN GOOD LUCK

As you stand in the feild you pick a perfect 4 leaf clover. Hey you say as you look at it. does
this mean good luck. i dont know you shrug you shoulders as you have a full on conversation with
yourself. you shake your head and putting the clover in your pouch, i better quit, i mean i cant
be a crazy king. (o.k. when you head down twice stand in the clover feild and type "TAKE CLOVER"
it should say you grab a four leaf clover.)

16. THESE POOR SOULS

After a long walk you discover a house, hoping that there isn't a witch in there you go in to ask
if you can rest. But man you say outloud as you look around this shack, these people do not have
anything. You feel sorry that they live like this i mean they did offer you a place to rest. You
reach into your pouch and sat down your bowl of stew. Here this will keep you from starving you
say as you sat it down. Oh the man and woman say at the same time, thank you so much here over
there take the fiddle its the least we could do. You bow your head as you take the fiddle, thank
you kind people. (o.k. this is quite a ways away go down than go left twice, then go down and
left. you should be in front of a wood house go inside and stand in front of the poor couple,
then type, "GIVE BOWL" they will thank you and have you take the fiddle, walk in front of it,
careful not to fall in the floor, and type "TAKE FIDDLE", then leave the house.)

17. WHERE DOES THIS LEAD

As you stand in front of a gigantic door you take the golden key you aquired out of your pouch
and try to unlock it. (click) it worked you say outloud as you open the door and enter. You look
straight ahead and see a giant stone stairway. you crack your knuckles and strecth your legs.
well you say only one way to solve this. (o.k. now from the poor peoples house go right, down
right, down, down. You should see a bizzare looking house, stand in front of it and type "UNLOCK
DOOR" then type "OPEN DOOR" then enter. there should be a stairway, just keep walking up until
you are out of the cave, carful not to slip.)

18. I SHOULD CHECK TREES MORE OFTEN

Man you yell out loud as you huff and puff, you lean against a tree. After a couple seconds you
hear a little noise. you look down and to your suprize something fell to the ground, it looks
to be a sling you think to yourself. so you reach your hand down and take it. hmmmmmmmm it must
have fell out of that tree, i should check them more often. (o.k. when you get out of the cave
head down and stand in front of the tree with a hole in it. type "LOOK IN HOLE" then type "TAKE
SLING".)

19. HE MUST DRINK HIS MILK

As you stand up you see in a distance a great giant. You go closer to get a better glimpse of the
giant. Man you say aloud as the giant looks at you with big red eyes. I dont like those eyes you
say to yourself as the giant runs twords you carrying something in his arms. This is trouble you
say to yourself as you equip your sling and shoot it at the giant much like david did to goliath.
BOOOOOOM the giant gets hit perfectly and falls dead to the ground. You walk up to the giant and
kick him to see if he is really dead. yup you say, as dead as he'll ever be. You bend over and
take the chest, see ya big guy you say as you continue on your journey to become king. (o.k. when
you get the sling head up and left, when you see the giant type "USE SLING" it should kill the
giant. now go over to the chest stand in front of it and type "TAKE CHEST".)

20. A RING

Good day to you my good man you say out loud to the elf. Oh the elf says with a hint of suprize
in his eyes. Uh good day to you to sir. You smile, How are you this fine day good elf? The elf
begins to stutter, why im uhhh fi..fin....fine. Here he says as he reaches into his pouch and
gives you a ring. What is this for you ask as you take the ring and look at it. Well sir it
is a ring of invisibility. I like you, you are nice, nicer than most humans, goodbye. And then
the elf leaves. Weird fellow you say to yourself as you put the ring in your pouch, oh well i
better continue on my quest. (o.k. when you kill the giant go right and back down that long stair
way. then head right, you should see an elf if he is not here leave and come back, if he is there
go in front of him and type "TALK TO ELF".)

21. IM GOING TO FLY LIKE AN EAGLE

Hello big guy you say as you reach out your hand to the bird. the bird flys away to the opposite
side of you. Hmmm you think to yourself. I have always wanted to ride one of these big birds, but
i never had a chance too, but now i think i do. A couple of seconds later the bird flys by you
again. Now you yell out as you jump uptop the bird, the bird flys away at full pace, where am i
going you say as you soar through the air. (o.k. after you get the ring go right 3 times and you
should see a bird, walk close to the bird on the right side and at the perfect time type "JUMP",
you should get on him and fly off.)

22. WHERE AM I

As you slam on the ground, you stand up and shake your head. Ow you yell out as you dust yourself
off. You take a deep breath and look down the hole next to you. Hmmm you think as you look up and
see a big juicy mushroom in a distance. I'm going to get that you say to yourself as you run over
there and pick it, you put it back into your pouch saving it until you are starving, then you
head over to that hole. Hmmm you still think as you decide to take a big chance and jump down in
it. (o.k. when you land head left, then go in front of the mushroom and type "TAKE MUSHROOM" then
head back right, and walk into the hole.)

23. NOW WHERE AM I

Now where am i you say as you dust yourself off. You look around, the cave has bad lighting but
it has enouph to manage. you continue to wander in the cave until you come upon a gaint rat. wow
you say as you reach into your pouch to lead it away from you. ahh this you may like rat you say
as you take the cheese from your pouch and throw it far away from you and the door it was
gaurding. Alright you say as you open the door and walk through. (o.k. when you fall down the
hole go down and left, there should be a rat get close enouph and type "GIVE CHEESE TO RAT" the
rat should dissapear, now go in front of the door and type "OPEN DOOR", then go through it.)

24. HEY I LOVE YOUR CERIAL

As you walk through the door you see some leprachauns. they since you have a four leaf clover so
they leave you alone. Good you say as you wave at them and continue to journey further into the
cave. You come up to the king of the little people, and slyly look at the sheild. bingo you think
to yourself as you walk by it and slip it into your pouch unoticed. Ha you think as you begin to
leave, now time to clear out this cave to make it safe for regular people. even though i dont
know how leprachauns can hurt people, but it would just be a king like thing to do, and i got to
get into the habit right? (o.k. after you go through the door go down and stand in front of the
sheild by the king, then type "TAKE SHIELD" now go back up.)

25. HEY EVERYBODY LETS DANCE

You go to where you first entered the place of the little people and begin to play your fiddle.
Alright they say as they begin to dance. Everyone danced and headed further into the cave having
a dancing frenzy. Alright you say as you make your way to the kings throne to make sure everyone
is gone. And to your suprize the king is still remaining but not for long as he races to follow
his men, leaving his scepter behind. (now type "PLAY FIDDLE" then they should all dance, now go
back down and the king should leave, and he will forget his scepter, now stand in front of it and
type "TAKE GET SCEPTRE".)

26. DONT SQUISH ME

You begin to head up the stairway wondering if it was the right thing to do leading all the
little people away from their kingdom. naaaah you say as begin to think they will be back. You
come up to a small hole with no way out. Oh man you say as you begin to think there is no escape.
You take out that mushroom, and take a bite. Hey this is your last meal why not pig out. but when
you take your first bite. you begin to feel smaller and to your suprize you are smaller. wow you
yell out as you decide not to waste time, you instantly run through. You come out on the other
side, and right in time you grow back to your normal size. Hey you say as you look at yourself,
this mushroom is pretty nifty but im thirsty now. (o.k. when you get the sceptre walk left and
up the steps, stand in front of the little hole and type "EAT MUSHROOM" than you will come up
from the other side, NOW GO TO THE WELL)

27. JUST A LITTLE TO DRINK

As you stand in front of the well you get a drink of water. GRRRR!!!! you hear a rumbling under
the well, wow you say as you sit in the bucket, i need to put an end to this noise it might be
bad, i mean if i free the land and get these three items i could be a famous king. But enouph
talk you say to yourself. (o.k. when you get to the well type "JUMP BUCKET", then you should go
to the bottom of the well, then type these three things "GO WATER" "SWIM" "DIVE", now when your
in the water the left side of the wall has a hole in it go through it.)

28. THE DEATH OF THE DRAGON

You get out of the water and see a dragon. Thats whats making the noise you say as you take out
your dagger to defend yourself, you dont hesitate as it gets closer, you throw it. BAM you hit
it between the eyes and it falls dead quicker than the giant before him. Ahh you say as you walk
over to get the mirror. What luck you say to yourself as you gently put it into your pouch. You
look at all the items you have aquired during your journey, yup all there you say as you race
back to the castle, its time to become king. (o.k. when you enter the place type "THROW DAGGER"
you kill the dragon and now walk over to the mirror and type "TAKE MIRROR" now head back to the
castle.)
