BEFORE WE BEGIN...
Monkey Island, to begin with, is a great game. This is Lucas Arts' third release of Monkey Island; CMI. But that
doesn't mean it should only be solved through this walkthrough. When you do it on your own, you really know that you have done it yourself and feel proud of it. When you're really, really, really, really, really stuck somewhere in a place then you should consult a walkthrough (namely mine). There will be a few extra paragraphs, which will give you either general information, hint of some funny stuff in the game or what to do when playing in the Mega-Monkey mode. If you're playing in the easy mode, then just forget it. You need to know the names of the people you meet, the island you go and the objects you keep picking up on the way. Ok, now let's just get started....
THE DEMISE OF THE ZOMBIE PIRATE LECHUCK
Watch the cut-scene and begin as LeChuck's captive. Talk to the pirate firing the canon (Remember him? From
MI2). Keep talking with him and he will give some pirate literature. Talk to him some more until he pokes his eye
with the hook, drops it and starts crying. Pick up the hook and the ramrod and use the canon, shooting the skeletons' brains out. Look out through the porthole and notice the debris floating nearby. Talk to the skeleton head (name's Murray) if you want to. Now use the ramrod with the hook to turn it into a gaff. Use the gaff with the debris to get a cutlass and a skeleton arm.
Funny Stuff: Use the gaff with Murray if you want to. Then look through the porthole later on.
Now use the cutlass (while ignoring Wally's cries) with the canon rope. Then use the canon. Watch the cut-scene and you'll end up in LeChuck's treasury room. Pick up the bag of nickels and the diamond beneath it. Then use the diamond with the porthole. Watch the following cut-scene.
THE CURSE GETS WORSE
You start of on Plunder Island. Pick up the glowing ember from the ground and go to the right until you see the over view of Plunder Island. Go to the swamp. Oh no! Not him again (actually, you'll keep encountering with him during the game). Talk to him and go into the ship. Pick up the pin from the paper voodoo doll and use the bag of nickels with the gumball machine to get a pack of chewing gum.
Mega-Monkey: Get the paste from the floor as well.
Pull the alligator tongue and talk to the voodoo priestess (Remember her from MI1 and MI2?). You'll find out that the diamond ring you gave to Elaine was cursed and a band of pirates stole Elaine. In order to save her, you must go to Blood Island to find an uncursed ring, but to get there, you'll need three things: a map, a crew and a ship.
Funny Stuff: Give some of the chewing gum to Murray if you want to.
Go to Puerto Polo and into the theater back stage. Pick up the dandruff (which is not) from the coat and the
glove in the pocket.
Mega-Monkey: To get the dandruff, look at the coat first and to get the glove you need to open the pocket.
Pick up the magic wand from the table and use it on the magic hat to get a ventriloquism book. Go to the stage and talk to Slappy Cromwell, the person who's practicing for the play. Get as much info about him as you can.
Now exit the stage and go to the Barbery Coast. Talk to every one, especially on how to get to Blood Island. Pick up the jawbreaker from the floor.
Mega-Monkey: To get the jawbreaker push the salty pirate (Cutthroat Bill) two times so that he spits it out.
Funny Stuff: Talk to the dapper pirate about the quartet.
Use the glove on the dapper pirate and let him take you to the caber tossing area. Close the lid of the middle pistol's box and pick up the banjo case. You'll duel with Edward Van Helgen with banjos.
Funny Stuff: Pick up the gun if you want to, but it'll cost you to do it again.
Here it becomes a bit tricky. During his strumming, Eddy will strum a few special notes. What you must do is repeat these notes in the same order when it's your turn. The only difference between this and Mega-Monkey is that in Mega-Monkey you will have to do it for a longer time. When you DO do it correctly Eddy will go haywire. Go to the gun pile and pick up any pistol from one of
the cases. Then use the pistol with the dueling banjo. Congratulations! Now you have one of the members of the crew. Only two more left...
Go to the Barbery Coast again and use the lice on the comb. Captain Rottingham will leave his seat. Use the chair he was sitting on. The barber pirate (Haggis) will start cutting your hair. Use the handle that's beneath the chair and then use the paperweight on the book. This will make Haggis look for another one. Until then, keep using the handle under the chair till you reach the ceiling and are high enough to get the scissors. Then go out and to the mysterious flowers (near the lemonade stand) and use the scissors with them. Then again use the scissors with the undergrowth.
Now either go read the sign or go to the things on the ground (it won't make a difference). !@#YIPES#@! You're caught by a snake! Pick up the things he has inside him and use the ipecac flower with the pancake syrup. Now use the ipecac juice with the snake so he throws you out.
Whoops! Out of the frying pan and into the fire! Pick up the thorn bush and the reed. Combine them together to form a world class peashooter. Open up your inventory to combine the helium balloon with the paperweight. Blow the balloon and use the peashooter with it.
Now you're in Danjer Cove. There's nothing to do here right now so go back to Puerto Polo and into the restaurant, owned by Blonde Beard. Give him the reservation slip and talk to him. Go to the quiet patron and push him. Pick up the knife from behind him and the Club Card from the remains of the chicken.
Mega-Monkey: To get the Club Card from the chicken go the barrel of biscuits and pick up the biscuit and the biscuit cutter. Eat the biscuit. EEEWW. Use the maggots with the chicken and pick up the Club Card. Pick up the pie pan as well.
Give the jawbreaker from your inventory to Blonde Beard. Ouch. Now he asks for something chewy. Give him the chewing gum. When blows up a bubble, pop it with the pin. Pick up the gold tooth from the floor.
Mega-Monkey: Blonde Beard won't let you go out with the tooth, so you have to do something else. Chew a chewing yourself, then use the gold tooth with the chewed chewing gum. Inhale some of the helium from the helium balloon. Now, use the chewing gum so that it floats out and splashes into a mud puddle. Outside, use the pie pan with the mud puddle.
Go to the Barbery Coast and show the gold tooth to Cutthroat Bill. Congratulations! Another pirate has entered your crew. Only one more to go...
Go to where you had the banjo duel.
Funny Stuff: If you move the mouse cursor over the diorama, you'll see a mysterious door. Use it a few times and see what happens.
Go over to the grassy knoll and use the knife with the sawhorse. The barrel of rum will go tumbling over towards the tree, leaving a trail of rum behind. Use the ember with the trail of rum. !@#KABOOM#@! Now go to the Barbery Coast and challenge Haggis to a duel. You'll obviously win, the tree was a rubber tree! Congratulations! You have the whole crew! Now all we need is a ship, a map and of course, Elaine...
Go to where you had the caber toss and use the biscuit cutter on the other tree. Now go to Danjer Cove. Use the plug with the paste and now use the pasty plug with the boat. Great! Use the boat and head for The Sea Cucumber (that's the name of the ship).
When you are there use the knife with the plank and go up. Talk to Mr. Fossey until you are back on Plunder Island dressed up in tar and feathers.
Funny Stuff: You can go up without cutting the plank but Fossey will make you walk the plank instead.
Go to Blonde Beard's restaurant. Blonde Beard will think that you're the chicken demon (Marco Diablo, or something) and trap you in a bucket and send you to The Sea Cucumber. Use the ventriloquism book on LeChimp. Congratulations! You got yourself a ship! After that pick up the treasure map and go through the porthole.
On Plunder Island, go to the beach and show the Cabana boy your Club Card. Pick up three towels and use them with the ice bucket. Then use the wet towels with the Cabana Boy. When he leaves, pickup the oil. Go to the beach and walk ahead. Ouch! Use the towels with the beach, one by one. Talk to Palido and pick up the mug on his belly. Now go back to Puerto Polo.
Talk to the lemonade boy, Kenny, and ask him for lemonade. Why that little... Use the mug you have with his mug. Now talk to him and ask for another drink. When he goes away, pick up the pitcher and use it with the dye vat near the lemonade stand.
Go back to Brimstone Beach, this time you won't have to do the towel thingy. Use the bottomless mug with Palido. Then use the pitcher with the bottomless mug. Palido, thinking that he's burning, will turn over, revealing the map. Use the cooking oil with the map and then pick up the map. Congratulations! You got the map to Blood Island! Now to find Elaine...
Go to the theater back stage and walk up stairs. Pull the lever and you'll find the X.
Mega-Monkey: Pulling the lever won't help you at all. You will have to follow the treasure map to find the X. When it says South-East you have to push the South-East button. Follow all the instructions and you should find the X on the grave on the stage eventually.
Use the oil on the canon balls in the trunk to your right. Watch what happens next. When Cromwell is off the stage, use the shovel on the grave. Congratulations! You just found Elaine. Now onward to Blood Island...
THREE SHEETS TO THE WIND
So Rottingham gets away with the map, big deal, but don't worry, we'll get it back eventually. If we get the pirates to stop singing, that is.
General Information: If the pirates in the game just keep singing and singing and singing, then I highly recommend you download the file:
So that you get the game after the singing.
After the singing, Haggis will ask you what kind of a pirate you are. The first one is the hard mode, the second one is the easy mode. If you change your mind then you can always talk to Haggis.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to beat Rottingham in sea battle and sword fight, to get back the map to Blood Island. You'll have to fight other pirates and upgrade your weapons until you are good enough to fight him. Use your navigation chart and meet other ships to fight with.
In the beginning go for the easy ships, if you beat them in sea battle, you'll board the ship and start sword fighting. In the sword fighting, the insults have to rhyme. In almost every fight you gain some new insults and the witty answer to the insult. You have to remember the answers to the insults.
Every ship you defeat in the sword fight, you take their treasure. But they can take away your treasure if you loose. You have to go back to Puerto Polo and upgrade your weapons after defeating a ship. The more fearsome the pirates are the better firepower you need to defeat them.
Captain Rottingham (the big cheat) uses his own insults, so you have to think what insult answer appears to be closer to his insult and make sure it rhymes. Good Luck! You're going to need it!
THE BARTENDER, THE THIEVES, HIS AUNT, AND HER LOVER
Talk to Haggis about everything, especially the lotion. Pick up the bottle from the shore and open it by biting the cork. Go to the cemetery, walk down and get the mallet and chisel. Get some smelly dog hair and the dog treats, give the old dog some dog treats so he'll bite you.
Mega-Monkey: Give the dog the maggoty biscuit so he'll bite you.
Go inside the hotel and talk to Madame Xima, the old woman. Ask for your fortune and get the five "death" tarot cards. Get the cushion from one of the bar's stools, the recipe book and the brochures as well (the brochures aren't necessary).
Read appendix in the recipe book and learn the ingredients for the hangover cure. We already have "hair of the dog that bit you" so now we need an egg and some pepper. Go to the door behind you and use the chisel on the big wheel of cheese. Pick up the refrigerator magnet from the refrigerator.
Go to the beach. See the egg on the tree? Use the cushion on the rocks under the tree and use the mallet on the tree. Now go to the windmill and get the pepper from the pepper plant beside it. Then go to the hotel and give all the ingredients to the bartender (his name is Griswold Goodsoup). He'll wake up and give you the hangover remedy (Head-B-Clear). Talk to the bartender.
Mega-Monkey: Before you order the grog, order a big fruity drink with an umbrella in it to get an umbrella.
Pickup the jar from the counter. Order some grog, but don't drink it yet! Use the chisel on the Head-B-Clear bottle to open it. Use the Head-B-Clear bottle on the grog glass and drink up. Oops, you died! Should have taken the warning in the recipe book seriously!!!
Ha Ha Ha! That cut-scene always drives me crazy! Ok, now you're in a tomb. Use the chisel with the coffin you're in. Pick up the coffin nails from the coffin you were in and again, use the chisel with the coffin in the middle (Whoops, look who's here). Go into the hotel, up the stairs and into the first room. Use the mallet on the nail in the wall and go out. Get the nail from the hall and enter the other bedroom.
Mega-Monkey: Get the portrait that fell with the nail as well. To unlock the bedroom door use Stan's business card with it and enter the bedroom.
Take down the bed and use the coffin nails on it and the nail from the portrait. Get the book from the skeleton and look at it. Go down out of the room and downstairs to the bar.
Mega-Monkey: Before you go downstairs to the bar, go to the hall and use the portrait on the door from the outside and then use the scissors with the portrait. Enter the closet room and look through the porthole.
Talk to the bartender about why you haven't been buried with his aunt. Tell him you're a member of his family, and finally talk about the Goodsoup family history. Order a drink. Use the Head-B-Clear on it, to die again.
This time, you are in the crypt of the Goodsoup family.
Funny Stuff: Look through the crack on the wall, what does it remind you of?
Talk to the ghost bride. After the conversation is over, go to the left of the crypt. Get the crowbar and walk towards the crack. Eep! Not him again! Pick up Murray when he falls down. Look through the crack in the wall and talk to the undertaker Mort. Use the skeleton arm on the lantern and go back to the crypt.
Mega-Monkey: To get the lantern, do the same thing except that put paste on the skeleton arm.
Use the lantern on the coffin lid, then use Murray with the lantern. This will freak out Mort and he will open the gates for you.
Funny Stuff: If you wait outside, you will see a cut-scene. If you are quick, then quickly, as you go out, go into Stan's mutal.
Get out of the crypt and into Mutal Of Stan's. Talk to stan and ask for an insurance policy. Give him a gold tooth in exchange for the insurance policy.
Go to the hotel, and into the storage room. Get the death certificate, which is located near the wheel of cheese. Go upstairs and into the bedroom. Use the crowbar with the boarded hole and the bed. After the short cut-scene you'll find yourself in the Goodsoup Family crypt again. Pick up the engagement band. From here, go to Mutal Of Stan and give him the death certificate. Stan will give you a lot of money.
Go to the strange lights near the volcano. Get the block of tofu, the auger and the measuring cup. Go up and talk to Lemon Head about everything. Use the auger on the block of tofu to make a tofu mask (Cool, isn't it?). Use the tofu mask and then go to Lemon Head and you will be in the ceremony. Throw some cheese down the volcano so it will erupt. Go to the hotel and put the cheese in the cooking pot, then pick up the cooking pot and Haggis will let you take the slippery greasy hand lotion.
Now go to the windmill. Enter the windmill and use the jar with the barrel to get some sugar water.
Mega-Monkey: To enter the windmill use the umbrella on the windmill blades.
Open your inventory and use the scissors or the chisel on the jar lid. Go to the clearing (look who's here) and use the jar on the stump. When the fireflies are in the jar, use the jar lid with the jar to trap the fireflies.
Mega-Monkey: Before you go to the lighthouse you will need a mirror. Go to the bar, take the mirror and put the face that's in your inventory in the mirror frame.
Go to the lighthouse and put the lantern on the lantern post.
Mega-Monkey: Put the mirror on the lighthouse mirror.
The lighthouse attracts the lost Welshman. Talk to him and he'll tell you he needs a compass. Open up your inventory and read the encyclopedia, it explains what a compass is. Use the measuring cup with seawater, use the refrigerator magnet with pin, use the magnetized pin with the cork, and use the cork with the measuring cup. Voila! Give the compass to the lost Welshman and you'll get a ride to Skull Island.
Walk to the cliff top and talk to the winch operator, LaFoot. Talk to him and he will start lowering you but then drop you. During your fall, quickly use your umbrella and you'll get to the smuggler's cave.
Funny Stuff: Don't open your umbrella and see what happens.
Tell them you have a lot of money, and talk to King Andre.
Funny Stuff: There will be a sentence, which will stop the conversation (usually the last one) and you can go any where you want to. Go down and talk to King Andre about the toys he has. You'll get a zombie pirate LeChuck toy.
Agree to play poker with them for the diamond. While in the game use the five "death" tarot cards with the weak hand. You'll win the game and get the diamond with an exciting cut-scene.
You find yourself back on Blood Island. Go to the clearing where Elaine is. Use the hand lotion with the cursed diamond ring on Elaine's hand, and take it off. It will explode. Use the diamond with the engagement band. Use the complete diamond ring on Elaine's left finger. Not so fast! The games' not over yet...
KISS OF THE SPIDER MONKEY
WHAT?! Not again! Talk to LeChuck as much as you can (or as much as you want to) and in the end, he will put a terrible curse on you. Open the door only to find out that you're a ... seven-year-old KID!? (I've heard of people getting into their inner childhood, but this is ridiculous!).
What's that he got? Foggy head? Terrible hangover? I've got just the remedy for that. Talk to Dingy Dog and tell him he can't guess your age. You'll win, and he'll let you choose the prize. No matter what you choose, you'll still have to take the anchor. Use the anchor in the meringue and tell the Wharf Rat to shoot it.
Mega-Monkey: You have to make a fake pie instead, by putting Captain Nick's Shaving Soap and the anchor in the pie pan. Then use the fake pie with the stack of pies.
Open the gate and look through the hole. The Wharf Rat will throw a pie at you. You just got some meringue, made up of egg.
Go over to Dinghy Dog and push him six times. Dinghy Dog will bite you but in the meantime Guybrush will pull out some of his hair. You just got the hair of the dog that bit you.
Go to the soda jerk and ask him for a snow cone. Get the pepper mill from his stand as well. Now use the meringue, hair and pepper with the snow cone. Now EAT the disgusting snow cone (it helps though).
Fun Stuff: Mix other things with the ice cream cone as well, like paste and tofu.
GUYBRUSH KICKS BUTT ONCE AGAIN
Like the title says, time to kick LeChuck's butt once again. You start off in LeChuck's roller coaster. Get off on the first diorama and pick up the rope. Go to the second diorama and get the keg of rum. Travel to the third diorama and get the flask of oil.
Mega-Monkey: To get the flask of oil, open the lantern, blow out the fire and pick it up.
Go to the last diorama and up to the Giant Snow Monkey. Use the keg of rum with the snow monkey's arm and use the rope with the oil to make it flammable. Use the rope with the keg of rum, go down and wait for LeChuck to appear. When he does come by, use the pepper mill with him. !@#KABOOM#@!
