FINDING THE NOTEBOOK

CLARIS LIMEHOUSE'S CABIN (D DECK - D19)

From conversations you had with the lift attendant and Max Seidlemann you found out that Claris Limehouse is in Cabin D19. Show her the ring and she tells you Haderlitz had a notebook and that he has hidden somewhere on the ship. Note that whether you give her the ring or keep it has no effect on the rest of the game.

PENNY PRINGLE'S CABIN (F DECK - F34)

Penny Pringle tells you Haderlitz was electrocuted in the Turkish Bath. She also tells you to find the notebook and gives you a gas pen for protection.

f you have the painting she'll show you a plan for allied troop deployment drawn on the reverse side of it.

TURKISH BATH (F DECK)

Smethells and Officer Morrow are outside the entrance. From speaking to both of them you learn that Haderlitz was electrocuted in the Electric Bath after having an argument with somebody about a painting. If you click on Haderlitz's body you'll find a scrap of paper (note) with a message written on it.

MEET THE GORSE-JONESES

This random meeting should take place on the way to the Grand Staircase on A or C Deck. They again talk to you about Eric Burns.

A DECK GRAND STAIRCASE

You should find Trask here. Talk to him using the following dialog topics:
 • I would like you to do a reading of something... (then select the note from your bag)
 • Would you do a reading of this scrap of paper
Trask tells you it's a passage from the Rubaiyat and could refer to a 'rope', but that you'll have to work out what the rest the passage means.

PURSER'S OFFICE (C DECK)

Speak to the Purser using the following dialog topics:
 • I need an item back from your safe.
 • I need my book, the Rubaiyat.
The purser gives you the Rubaiyat. Page through it and look for the relevant paragraph containing the 'words' on the note.

Trask told you that 'Rope' refers to a rope, which can be used to tie 'Knots'. Can you think of a 'Road' on the ship? The note is a clue pointing to the rope and axe on the wall in Scotland Road Aft.

SCOTLAND ROAD AFT (E DECK)

Go back and again examine the rope and axe on the wall. Jack Hacker arrives and gives you a second scrap of paper (second note) with another message on it.

A DECK GRAND STAIRCASE

You should still find Trask here. Talk to him again using the following dialog topics:
 • I would like you to do a reading of something... (select the second note from your bag)
 • Would you do a reading of this scrap of paper
He tells you that this is also from a passage in the Rubaiyat.

He interprets the 'ancient Ruby' as something old and red and the 'Garden by the Water' referring to a profusion of greenery on board. Do you remember where you saw a 'profusion of greenery' on board?

CAFE PARISIAN (B DECK)

Closely examine the table where you met Zeitel and Haderlitz (second last one on the right). Do you remember Zeitel forgetting his pipe? Maybe another smoker was just as careless! You find a packet of Old Red cigarettes on the wall behind the table.

You need to return the cigarettes to whoever left them behind. Do you remember Max Seidlemann smoking in the beginning? Note that if you ask Trask to do a reading of the cigarettes you also learn who they belong to.

SMOKING ROOM (A DECK)

Talk to Max Seidlemann about the packet of cigarettes. He'll tell you that he saw Haderlitz hiding something on top of one of the smokestacks!

ERIC BURNS' CABIN (C DECK - C78)

Eric Burns offers to trade a photo for a gift for Stephanie and when you tell him you don't have anything suitable he suggests that Reverend Troutt may have something.

BOAT DECK - PORT

Exit to the port side deck from the 2nd Class Stairs. You find the Reverend Trout on the 2nd Class Promenade. Talk to him and he'll give you a prayer card.
Climb the stairs (on the 2nd Class Promenade) to get to the Raised Roof Over 1st Class Smoking Room. If you turn to the right twice you find Officer Morrow's binoculars. Go back to the 2nd Class Promenade and continue toward the Bridge at the front end of the ship. When Officer Morrow stops you use the following dialog topics:
 • Would you like something...? (then click on the binoculars in your bag)
 • Would you like these binoculars?
 • May I visit the bridge?
He'll now allow you into he Bridge. For a bit of fun try changing the ship's course!

ERIC BURNS' CABIN (C DECK - C78)

Trade the prayer card for Eric Burns' photo. The photo shows someone (presumably Haderlitz) looking out from the top of a smokestack. Although Eric Burns gives the photo to you, there appears to be a bug in the game in that you don't actually receive it and it won't be in your bag.

PENNY PRINGLE'S CABIN (F DECK - F34)

Report to Penny Pringle and she tells you that the only entrance to the smokestack is in the Engine Room.

G DECK

You'll need to again regulate the steam for boilers 1 and 2 (in the Control Room) before the Engineer allows you into the Engine Room.

Remember the stairs you saw along the metal walkway in the Engine Room? Take the stairs going up to get to the smokestack. You meet Vlad again at the top of the stairs. The fight with him is actually meaningless and it makes no difference to the game whether you win or lose. However, to satisfy your ego you can beat him if you alternate between punching him in the face and kicking him in the crotch.

CLIMBING UP THE SMOKESTACK

After winning (or losing) the fight with Vlad climb the metal ladder in front of you. This takes you to the first level of the smokestack. Climbing up the 10 levels to reach the top of of the smokestack is in the form of a randomly generated maze. The best way to go about reaching the top is to always try the first ladder to your right if there is a way to get to it. If not, then go left and climb the first ladder on that side. If you reach a complete dead end go back down to the last level where you climbed a ladder on the right and try the second ladder instead.

For those not prepared to persevere with mazes, I've included the 'cheat' solution.

ON TOP OF THE SMOKESTACK

Walk around the smokestack's perimeter and keep turning towards the centre to find the notebook. As soon as you pick it up Zeitel confronts you, holding a gun. During your conversation the Titanic hits an iceberg!

At this point there are 2 ways to continue in the game:
 1) Whether you give him the notebook (or refuse to) he'll shoot you and get the notebook anyway
 2) You can knock him out with the gas pen by selecting the following dialog topics when talking to him:
     • I have something for you... (then click on the gas pen in your bag)
     • You can have this pen

If you decide on the 1st option you won't die and wake up in your Cabin.

If you decide on the 2nd option you need to make your way back down the smokestack. While going down the first ladder you'll be knocked out by Vlad and he takes the notebook. You'll similarly wake up in your Cabin.
